Q&A with Cherelle Hernandez:
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Ft. Lewis, but I was raised as an army brat. Spent a fair amount of time in Germany, Georgia, the Carolinas, Pennsylvania, Wyoming and Colorado. (No, I don’t speak German, and I sound like Yoda if I try.)
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Rollerblading, painting, card games, and nature walks. I LOVE cooking, but I always make too much food, so having potlucks with my family and friends is my absolute favorite. This year I am trying my hand at gardening! Hopefully I will have my mother’s green thumb—fingers crossed.
What is your favorite thing about working at Cimco-GC Systems?
It’s the people. We’ve hired some truly amazing individuals, kind-hearted, thoughtful, and hardworking. I feel genuinely honored to help support and work alongside them.
Describe a time that your work (at Cimco-GC Systems) made a difference and what you found satisfying about it.
I help with daily the behind-the-scenes activities, particularly with billing and invoicing. That work plays a critical part in keeping everything running smoothly. I’ve found it especially satisfying to watch different software programs communicate and work together to create accurate, efficient results. Learning how these systems function and seeing my efforts contribute to a seamless process has been both rewarding and genuinely fun.
What is your superpower?
My superpower is empathy. I have a strong ability to understand where others are coming from, which helps me communicate effectively, build trust, and support people in a way that is genuine and thoughtful.
Do you have any surprise skills that most people in your professional world don't know about?
I work in several artistic mediums, including watercolor, charcoal, acrylic paint, pastels, and even tattoo guns. I also sing in the office with my coworker Josh. We enjoy carrying a tune together and bringing a little fun into the workday.
Best compliment/encouragement someone has given you:
I was once told my joy and laugh is infectious. That was encouraging because it reminds me that showing up positively and authentically has a meaningful impact on the people around me.
Describe a time that you saw one of Cimco-GC Systems' values in action? Why was it memorable? What did it mean to you?
One of the most memorable ways I’ve seen “Relationships” in action is through how our team genuinely supports one another, especially behind the scenes. Whether it's as simple as saying happy birthday or more in depth such as coworkers taking the time to explain a process, stepping in to help when someone needs it, or simply checking in on each other as people not just employees, it consistently shows that relationships matter here. We have an environment where people feel valued and supported, which ultimately leads to better work and stronger collaboration. It’s meaningful to be part of a company where connection is treated as essential.
Lightning round:
Do you have any nick names? Relle or Relle-Bell. When I am cleaning, I’ve also been called Cinder-Relly.
Favorite movie: What Dreams May Come (1998). Robin Williams embarks on a journey through the afterlife; the movie follows his effort to reunite his family after death. The film is deeply poetic and visually stunning, weaving together theology, love, and profound existential themes. In some scenes, he quite literally moves through the painted worlds of his wife’s artwork, making the movie feel like a living piece of art.
Favorite food: Potatoes. Beyond the fact that they can be turned into just about anything—and have kept entire nations from famine—potatoes carry personal meaning for me. When my family lived in Germany, food trucks would drive through the base selling everything from gummy candies to fresh fruits and vegetables—even rugs. Our favorite was the Potato-Man. He walked up and down the streets ringing a bell and calling out, “Potato-Man, Tato-Man!” To this day, my family still mimics him and keeps the memory alive whenever we make a potato dish.
Favorite sound? Friends and family’s laughter.
Favorite day-off activity: SLEEPING IN... and oddly enough, meal-prepping. My weeks are so much better with it.
Dream vacation destination: I would love to go back to Europe and explore more, but I am happy to go anywhere new with good company.
One thing you couldn’t live without: Music, Sunshine and probably coffee... or potatoes.
